Ceta-Mall

City Mall is the only western-style shopping mall in Damascus (two others were opened outside the city in Sabboura and on Daraa Highway). For reasons that are not well understood, it is known among taxi drivers as "Cetamol" (pronounced seetah-mol) which is the Syrian brand name for the pain killer Panadol/Tylenol.

I have not been to Syria since 1990. This is amazing! I noticed that one of the shops is called "Top Style." Are non-arabic names allowed now? I remember when they banned non-arabic names for shops & businesses. When the ban was enforced, one of the computer stores had to change its name from Lotus to Nayloufer (which is the Arabic name of the Lotus, I guess!). That was funny.
