Festival of Colors

Chinese toys, Syrian-made lipstick, cheap sunglasses, hairdryers, umbrellas, brooms and pens, all make a beautiful festival of colors in a small alleyway near Bab Al-Jabieh.

That reminds me of the dollar store so abundant here in NA... Although the Damascene version is much more beautiful, simple, and warm.

Great Blog. Keep up the good work. I was in Damascus in the Summer of 2003. Just remind me, is the Bab Al-Jabieh in al-Souq al-Hamdiyyeh?

Thanks everybody for your comments...

Leo, Bab Al-Jabieh is the area of Souk Medhat Pasha (the Street Called Straight), which is close to Souk Al-Hamidiyyeh.

Fadi, I used slow shutter speed. This picture is one of my favorites :)

I like this picture very much. The colors and chaotic arrangement assault my sense of vision and remind me of a kalaidascope.

I can only imagine the fractal of sounds and smells in this space.

Thanks!

Many thanks Ayman. I really need to return to Damascus at some point. I'm missing the hotelier's "Yaa ahlayn" - the only place on my travels where I've been doubly welcomed. (Before you say anything, I'm average build!)

Perhaps you could cast an eye on my whistelstop photographic tour of the Levant here. There are a few Damascene street scenes hidden away.
