Burial Place

Outside the mosque and burial place of Abu Al-Darda' in the Citadel of Damascus. Abu Al-Darda' was a companion of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and one of the narrators of Hadith (sayings of the Prophet). After the Muslim conquest of Syria, he resided in Damascus and became the city's judge during the reign of Caliph Uthman Ibn 'Affan. He died in 653.

I like the contrasts in color b/w the old stone structure and the magazines. Stark.

Another fascinating photo, Ayman. Thanks.

I was lucky enough to visit this place on my travels to Syria as well as the burial place of Sayyiduna Khalid bin Waleed and Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them). Unforunately I missed the burial place of Sayyiduna Bilal Habshi (may Allah be pleased with him) and did NOT visit it but I believe it is somewhere in Damascus. Could somebody enlighten me as to where it is? Also I wanted to know where Imam an-Nawawi the famous scholar is buried, I think that he is buried somewhere in Damascus also! Thanks for your help!

Bilal Al-Habashi (May Allah be pleased with him) is burried in the Cemetery of Bab As-Sagheer (which is till in use and is located close to Souq Midhat Pasha). I don't know where Imam An-Nawawi is burried. I should look this up.

Since we are on the subject of burial places and cemeteries is it true that there is a place in Damascus called the Sufi cemetery where famous scholars are buried?

Thank you Ayman for another powerful picture with a breathtaking history.

It makes me realise that this city is so much bigger than all of us, and our little concerns - it's a city that has lived many lifetimes, and will keep doing so long after we're gone.

How lucky we are to be close to her (Damascus).
